In 1986 Jerry received his first major accomplishment when Diane Vanderlip the new curator of the department of contemporary art at the Denver Art Museum arranged to purchase one of Jerry's surreal works for its permanent collection. This was the first work by a contemporary Hispanic artist selected for purchase by the Denver Art Museum. A smaller drawing would follow a few years later.
