Jerry takes off for Germany within the year for his tour of duty. Stationed outside of Frankfurt with a headquarters company and his own room, Jerry continues to create art and ends up painting portraits of fellow soldiers' girlfriends and wives from photos. Though Jerry remains immersed in the practice and study of painting and drawing, he remains oblivious to the possible connection between what he loves and the world of fine art. He doesn't visit a single art museum or gallery his whole time abroad.
